Erin Cowser was physique/face-slammed by San Bernardino police officer

*A civil rights lawsuit filed in San Bernardino County Superior Courtroom is elevating severe allegations in opposition to the San Bernardino Police Division, claiming an officer used extreme pressure in opposition to a 17-year-old woman—leaving her unconscious with a traumatic mind damage—then lied about how the accidents occurred.

The lawsuit, introduced by civil rights legal professional Toni J. Jaramilla, was filed on behalf of Erin Cowser and names the Metropolis of San Bernardino, the San Bernardino Police Division, and particular person officers as defendants.

In line with the criticism, Cowser—described as unarmed and compliant—was approached from behind by an officer who grabbed her backpack, restrained her arms, and forcefully slammed her face-first onto concrete whereas her fingers have been partially restrained.

The Could/2025 incident allegedly prompted Cowser to lose consciousness and endure a traumatic mind damage, reminiscence loss, a deep facial laceration requiring stitches, and extra wrist and again accidents.

Video Proof Contradicts Police Narrative

The lawsuit claims each body-worn digital camera footage and civilian video captured the incident, contradicting statements made by officers who allegedly blamed Cowser’s accidents on different juveniles.

In line with the submitting, officers repeated these claims to Cowser’s household whereas she was hospitalized and maintained that model of occasions internally—even after video proof surfaced.

The criticism additional alleges that though an officer later admitted to mendacity throughout a use-of-force investigation, the division by no means publicly corrected its account.

“This was not a mistake — it was violence, adopted by dishonesty,” Jaramilla stated. “An officer took a petite, unarmed teenage woman and slammed her face-first onto concrete, then lied about it. Even when the reality got here out, the division refused to appropriate the document.”

Sufferer Speaks Out

Cowser says she remembers little from the incident itself.

“I bear in mind being terrified — after which I don’t bear in mind something in any respect,” she stated. “I awoke damage, confused, and being advised issues that I later discovered weren’t true about what occurred to me.”

Group Response

Civil rights activist Najee Ali, Director of Undertaking Islamic Hope, strongly condemned the alleged actions.

“This police officer violently assaulted an unarmed feminine youth after which lied about it,” Ali stated. “He shouldn’t be working in legislation enforcement. He must be arrested and criminally prosecuted.”

Authorized Claims

The lawsuit contains claims underneath the Bane Civil Rights Act and Ralph Civil Rights Act, together with allegations of assault, battery, and negligence. Attorneys argue the case displays broader considerations about extreme pressure and accountability throughout the division.

Press Convention Particulars

A press convention is scheduled for Friday, April 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. on the workplaces of Toni Jaramilla, APLC, situated at 1900 Avenue of the Stars, Suite 900, Los Angeles, CA (Citibank Constructing).

Confirmed members embrace Erin Cowser and Najee Ali.

This report relies on allegations contained in a civil lawsuit. The claims haven’t but been adjudicated in courtroom. Representatives for the San Bernardino Police Division had not publicly responded to the allegations on the time of publication.
