Zimbabweans on ZEPs endure growing hardships in SA

The Zimbabwe Exemption Allow Holders Affiliation (Zepha) has known as on the Zimbabwean authorities to expedite a voluntary repatriation programme.

They cited the more and more insupportable situations confronted by Zimbabweans residing in South Africa below the Zimbabwe Exemption Allow (ZEP) system.

In a memo addressed to the Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa, Zepha detailed the rising authorized and social challenges its members endure. The affiliation claims that Zimbabweans below the ZEP system wrestle to entry important companies like healthcare, training, employment, and journey. They argue that many are compelled to take authorized motion to safe these fundamental rights.

Zepha Argues Zimbabweans Are Exploited

Zepha argues that Zimbabweans in South Africa are exploited for his or her labour whereas being denied basic rights. “Their help for Zimbabwean employees extends solely to prolonging exploitation, however to not offering Zimbabweans with the rights required to dwell full and dignified lives,” the memo states. It additionally accuses South African society of scapegoating Zimbabweans for financial points, which has led to elevated vigilantism and violent assaults with out authorized repercussions.

Zepha On Xenophobia and Political Exploitation

The memo studies that political events just like the Patriotic Alliance, MK Get together, and ActionSA have intensified xenophobic rhetoric. It additionally highlights that teams like Operation Dudula are bodily concentrating on foreigners. The memo states that these assaults seem orchestrated and intensify throughout elections. The affiliation claims that South Africa’s white minority blames Zanu-PF for Zimbabwe’s financial collapse. They argue that the media reinforces perceptions of Zimbabwe as a failed state.

‘Psychological and Emotional Hurt’

Zepha warns that Zimbabweans in South Africa face harsh therapy, resulting in vital psychological misery. They emphasize that youngsters, specifically, develop up feeling like second-class residents. The memo lists discrimination in areas reminiscent of license renewals, police raids, banking restrictions, job dismissals, faculty exclusions, and medical care denials.

Zepha has accused South Africa’s Residence Affairs Division of delaying everlasting residency purposes for ZEP holders, making it tough for them to legalise their standing. Given these challenges, Zepha urges the Zimbabwean authorities to help with repatriation.
