There’s nothing extra lovely than seeing ladies supporting ladies.

“I don’t even know in case you bear in mind this, however after I signed my deal sheet, you gave me a name,” stated Hostin, “… and also you had been like, I heard you’re approaching the present. And I used to be like, Yeah, I’m becoming a member of the present. [You were] like, did they provide you a automotive stipend? I used to be like, No. Did they provide you this? I used to be like, No. And I used to be like, let me get my deal sheet out. And also you principally went over your wage for all the time you had been there. And also you additionally gave me Jenny McCarthy’s wage.”

Pay transparency is spreading, and that’s good for Black workers

That second of transparency between the 2 ladies not solely made Hostin notice that her agent “didn’t get [her] sufficient cash” but in addition gave her the wanted ammunition to renegotiate her wage.

“There you go! As a result of I obtained it from Rosie. Rosie O’Donnell gave everyone’s wage and hers,” stated Shepherd, crediting her actions to O’Donnell, who left the present in 2007.

In 2018, Shepherd revealed to Individuals journal how O’Donnell’s transparency about her contract gave her the instruments to barter a deal just like her fellow co-hosts on “The View.” Since then, the “SherriI” host has made it her mission to assist different ladies becoming a member of the discuss present world dealer their very own offers.

“It’s essential pay it ahead,” Shepherd advised Hostin.

Lack of transparency in salary could be driving income disparity

Hostin has performed simply that. Throughout a “Queens of Tradition: Legends of Enterprise” panel dialogue that Forbes hosted, the Emmy Award-winning co-host shared how that phonecall with Shepherd impressed her to do the identical for the ladies at her earlier employer, CNN, and has since made her an advocate for equal pay.

Contemplating that Black ladies make 63 cents for each greenback white males make, this degree of sisterhood is significant to bridge the racial and gender pay hole. As Shepherd says, we’ve “gotta stick collectively!”
