Whoopi Goldberg Nominated for Literary NAACP Image Award

The literary nominees for the 56th NAACP Picture Awards face fierce competitors.

Whoopi Goldberg, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Pleasure-Ann Reid, and others will compete for Excellent Literary Work on the 56th NAACP Picture Awards.

The 2025 NAACP Picture Awards nominees have been introduced on Jan. 7, that includes 9 literary classes—eight Excellent Literary Work awards for varied genres and one Excellent Graphic Novel class—that honor numerous genres and authors, Selection studies.

The Excellent Literary Work –Biography/Autobiography competitors is intense, that includes powerhouse Black ladies and a posthumous nomination vying for the win.

Among the many nominees are Goldberg’s Bits and Items: My Mom, My Brother, and Me, Jackson’s Beautiful One: A Memoir, and Reid’s Medgar and Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Woke up America.

Nominated within the Excellent Literary Work–Fiction class are A Love Tune for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams, Grown Lady by Sarai Johnson, Neighbors and Different Tales by Diane Oliver, One in every of Us Is aware of: A Thriller by Alyssa Cole, and What You Depart Behind by Wanda M. Morris.

Grown Lady, which tells the story of 4 generations of Black ladies working to maneuver ahead and heal from previous trauma, additionally earned Johnson a second nomination within the Excellent Literary Work—Debut Writer.

The Excellent Literary Work–Nonfiction 5 nominations embody A Passionate Thoughts in Relentless Pursuit: The Imaginative and prescient of Mary McLeod Bethune by Noliwe Rooks, The 1619 Challenge: A Visible Expertise by Nikole Hannah-Jones and The New York Occasions Journal, and The Jazzmen: How Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Rely Basie Reworked America by Larry Tye.

Further literary classes embody Excellent Literary Work—Tutorial, for which Tabitha Brown earned a nomination for her guide I Did a New Factor: 30 Days to Residing Free (A Feeding the Soul E book), in addition to Loving Your Black Neighbor as Your self by Chantee Griffin and Black Pleasure Playbook: 30 Days of Deliberately Reclaiming Your Delight by Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts.

Different classes to be celebrated embody Excellent Literary Work–Poetry, Excellent Literary Work–Kids, Excellent Literary Work–Youth/Teenagers, and Excellent Graphic Novel.

Taraji P. Henson acquired a nomination within the kids’s guide class for You Can Be a Good Buddy (No Matter What!): A Lil TJ E book. Poetry and youngsters’s fiction author Kwame Alexander acquired two nominations, one for This Is the Honey: An Anthology of Modern Black Poets within the Poetry class and one other for Black Star: The Door of No Return within the Youth/Teenagers class.

Winners will probably be revealed on Feb. 22 throughout the Picture Awards’ two-hour dwell broadcast from the Pasadena Civic Heart, airing on BET and CBS. This yr’s theme is “Our Tales, Our Tradition, Our Excellence.”
