White Mom Suing Airline After Being Accused of Trafficking Her Black Daughter

Nationwide — Mary MacCarthy, a white girl from Los Angeles, California, has filed a lawsuit in opposition to Southwest Airways over what she claims was a case of “blatant racism” after an worker reportedly known as the police on her, suspecting her of human trafficking her personal 10-year-old biracial daughter.

Within the lawsuit, MacCarthy claimed that she and her daughter, Moira, had been “racially profiled” by a flight attendant on a Southwest Airways flight from San Jose, California, to Denver, Colorado on October 22, 2021, in accordance with Enterprise Insider.

MacCarthy mentioned they had been flying to Denver after her brother, who served as a father determine to Moira, unexpectedly died on the age of 46. However upon landing, law enforcement officials and a Southwest consultant stopped them, suspecting them of human trafficking.

“Unbeknownst to MacCarthy, whereas they had been within the air, a Southwest worker known as the Denver Police Division to report MacCarthy for suspected little one trafficking for no motive aside from the totally different coloration of her daughter’s pores and skin from her personal,” the lawsuit states.

Police questioned each the mom and daughter, who had been very upset. They had been finally allowed to go with out costs. However the incident induced them numerous “excessive emotional misery.”

In line with a police report, the flight attendant thought it was unusual that the mom and daughter didn’t speak a lot through the flight. Nonetheless, MacCarthy denies this, saying they did speak and her daughter was listening to an audiobook.

Furthermore, MacCarthy mentioned that she’s at all times frightened about being judged when she’s out together with her daughter, particularly at airports. She says it’s tiring to be so cautious about every part they do collectively.

As for her daughter, she nonetheless doesn’t like speaking about what occurred. MacCarthy is requesting financial damages, compensatory damages, in addition to punitive and exemplary damages to make up for what they went by means of.
