Hundreds flocked to the Navy Yard aspect of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Southeast for the twelfth Annual FITDC Recent Begin 5K hosted by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District of Division Parks and Recreation (DPR).
Encouraging contributors to “run by the tape,” Bowser stated the occasion “is a technique to begin the New Yr with function and surrounded by associates and group.”
“It is a custom that began after I was mayor-elect,” she stated in a press release, “and in 2026 it’s going to symbolize my dedication to D.C. residents to run by the tape and end robust.”
Sponsored by Aetna, the free, family-friendly occasion kicked off at 11 a.m., was open to folks of all ages and skills, and included a Youngsters Sprint and a pre-race pageant with refreshments, music, and vendor cubicles.
“The sweetness is to start with and the Recent Begin 5K reminds us that each Jan. 1 we get an opportunity to hit reset and begin once more,” stated DPR Director Thennie Freeman. “It’s about health, household, group, enjoyable and displaying up for ourselves. I can’t wait to begin the 12 months with you on the beginning line.”
