The biblical story of Ruth and Boaz is coming to Netflix in a modern-day retelling that you just gained’t wish to miss.

Produced by Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin, Ruth & Boaz follows Serayah’s Ruth as she leaves the Atlanta music scene for a brand new life in Tennessee. Whereas caring for an aged lady in her new city, Ruth finds an sudden romance with Tyler Lepley’s Boaz. The deeply shifting movie, which was directed by Alanna Brown and written by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan, hits Netflix on Friday, September 26.

Ruth & Boaz is anchored in aspirational — but sensible — Black love, in line with Franklin, who says that we have to “get love again in tradition.”

“I believed, ‘What about doing one thing that’s by no means been executed earlier than? What if we replace the story of Ruth and Boaz and we do it with Black people?’” the producer says. “We give a distinct lens to Black love by this timeless love story. Within the film, Boaz type of struggles together with his previous. By Ruth’s assist and understanding, [he learns] who he’s and that he’s lovable. She involves a realization that — in the case of Black love — it begins with, ‘Hey, I gotta love me first. Once I love me, I can share that love with you.’’

Franklin acknowledges how many individuals within the Black neighborhood who’re on the lookout for love typically query the place their Boaz is. This movie reveals that the biblical love story is just not solely attainable for Black audiences, however a wonderful journey of self-discovery as effectively.

“Black love is hope. Black love is actuality,” Franklin explains. “I believe that typically individuals assume, ‘I’m going to search out my Boaz. The place is my Boaz?’ It virtually feels mythological and never sensible. This film has that type of fairy story ingredient, however it’s very grounded. I need individuals, once they see this movie, to say, ‘Black love is achievable.’”

Lepley echoes Franklin’s sentiments, including that the movie will present that “everyone deserves love the place they’re at.” The P-Valley actor desires audiences to be taught what love is meant to seem like by Ruth and Boaz’ story.

“I’ve by no means executed a love story,” Lepley shares. “[Making Ruth & Boaz] was higher than something I may have ever imagined. We learn these self-help books or watch one thing on TV and really feel like we have now to repair ourselves earlier than we discover the best particular person. Typically, God reveals up in mysterious methods to have love meet you the place you’re at. Ruth & Boaz is a feel-good story that means that you can nonetheless hope for actual love.”

Whereas love could also be on the middle of the Ruth & Boaz, the center of the film comes from its star-studded solid. The Netflix movie stars Hollywood legend Phylicia Rashad as Naomi, music icons Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Jermaine Dupri, in addition to BMF’s Walnette Santiago. Lepley says that working with Rashad was a as soon as in a lifetime alternative.

“You’ll be able to really feel her presence even earlier than she speaks. when she walks within the room. It’s like you’ll be able to really feel her greatness,” Lepley gushes about Rashad, including that all the solid and crew gave “a bit of their greatness to such a wonderful story.”

“I felt prefer it was a wonderful full circle second,” Lepley says about working with the solid. “All of us collaborated in a approach that everyone’s gonna be happy with.”

The stellar casting was made attainable by Franklin and Perry’s imaginative and prescient and artistic partnership with Netflix, by which they’ll produce faith-based movies underneath a multi-year and multi-picture first-look deal. Franklin says that working with Perry was a pure extension of their years-long friendship.

“We’ve identified one another for 20 years. We each are males of God and males of religion,” Franklin shares. “Netflix offered such a chance to do what’s by no means been executed. You’ve by no means seen two brothers come collectively to kind a partnership to provide content material that’s particularly geared to uplifting and galvanizing individuals. Ruth & Boaz is an exceptional starting to this unbelievable partnership. To make use of the Bible as a basis for [the film] brings all of it collectively in a really distinctive, however very intentional approach.”

Ruth & Boaz might be obtainable to stream on Netflix on Friday, September 26, 2025.
