Two White Brothers Face Charges After Alleged Racist Attack on Black Fishermen

Nationwide — Two brothers, Jesse and Jordan Kollman, who’re from Edgar County, Illinois, face tried homicide and hate crime expenses after an alleged assault on three Black males whereas they have been fishing. Court docket information say the confrontation escalated into gunfire.

In accordance with WCIA, officers say Danville alderman Jaleel Jones and two buddies have been fishing on April 3 at White Oaks Park when the Kollman brothers and their good friend Jayden Reynolds arrived in a white pickup truck.

Investigators say the scenario turned confrontational after the lads, who had reportedly been consuming earlier that night time, received out of the truck. Prosecutors say they started harassing the fishermen and used racial slurs. The victims say they tried to stroll away and keep away from any battle as tensions rose.

Police say Jordan Kollman then pulled a shotgun from the truck and fired a shot into the air. Authorities additionally say Reynolds had bought the firearm earlier that night. Prosecutors say threats have been made in the course of the confrontation, together with a press release that they might “blow your heads off.”

Officers say Tajon King, one of many fishermen who was legally carrying a 9mm handgun, fired in self-defense after believing his life was at risk. He struck Jordan Kollman a number of occasions within the stomach and hip space. The three males then fled the scene and referred to as 911 to report they have been being shot at.

Legislation enforcement later recovered shotgun shells and 9mm casings on the website, together with injury according to a shootout. Investigators say the shotgun ammunition matched what was bought earlier that night time. Police arrested the Kollman brothers later within the night, and each have been denied pretrial launch throughout their court docket look.

The State’s Lawyer’s Workplace says the incident was racially motivated and aimed toward forcing the Black males out of Edgar County. Neighborhood members have since voiced concern and frustration over the case. Jesse and Jordan Kollman are set to return to court docket subsequent Friday, whereas Jayden Reynolds is scheduled to look on Monday.
