Trucker Awarded $1.6 Million from Former Employer He Says Called Him Racial Slurs, Threatened To ‘Kill Him’ Because He Complained His Paycheck Was Short

An Oklahoma man was awarded over $1.6 million final month after submitting a federal lawsuit in opposition to his employer, accusing them of racial discrimination. 

Roscoe Gatewood, who’s Black, sued Ohio trucking firm Hamidiy Inc. final 12 months saying that he was terminated from his job because of his race, in accordance with Landline citing courtroom paperwork. 

In June 2022, data say the Oklahoma Metropolis man was finishing up a supply when he contacted his supervisor to ask about his paycheck that was lacking $3,000, the outlet reported. Nonetheless, later that day, he acquired a name from the president of the corporate, recognized as “Russ” within the authorized paperwork.

Russ is accused of threatening the trucker and his household, calling him racial slurs, and abruptly firing him from his place.

They used horrible racial epithets in speaking to him, after which fired him on the spot and nonetheless didn’t pay him the cash he was owed.”

In response to the report, Gatewood has been awarded $1 million in punitive damages and a further $628,325 in compensatory damages by Western District of Oklahoma U.S. District Choose Patrick Wyrick after Hamidiy didn’t defend itself within the lawsuit.
