Tia Mowry’s New Series Encourages Cancer Talk Over Home-Cooked Meals

Like many Black girls, actress Tia Mowry has misplaced individuals she likes to most cancers. Furthermore, she had her personal breast most cancers scare final yr when medical doctors discovered an abnormality throughout a routine mammogram.

These mortality disparities, paired with private experiences, have impressed Mowry to host a brand new video collection referred to as “Rewrite the Recipe,” launching Nov. 24. Within the episodes, the actress, who calls meals her love language, joins most cancers survivors and advocates within the kitchen to speak by household recipes and their experiences with breast and prostate most cancers.

“There have been tears; there was laughter,” she displays. “We’re within the kitchen. We’re slicing up some collards – there’s some catfish that’s being fried, and there we’re having some intimate conversations round what’s typically a tough matter, which is most cancers.” 

The collection is a part of the Modifications the Odds initiative, a partnership between the American Most cancers Society and Pfizer.

Mowry’s purpose, she says, is to encourage Black households to deal with good meals and good firm on the dinner desk as a chance to be susceptible about their household historical past with most cancers.

“It’s actually essential for us to know our household historical past and our household’s connection to most cancers and share it with our medical doctors in order that we are able to get the correct screenings,” she says.

The collection airs on most cancers.org/changetheodds. The positioning additionally features a listing of U.S. services providing free or low-cost most cancers screenings.
