The Weeknd Donates $350K to Help Jamaicans Recover from Hurricane Melissa

Nationwide — The Weeknd, whose actual identify is Abel Tesfaye, has donated $350,000 by his XO Humanitarian Fund to assist Jamaicans recuperate from Hurricane Melissa, supporting the World Meals Programme’s emergency meals aid for tens of 1000’s affected by the storm.

Hurricane Melissa hit the Caribbean on the finish of October, leaving almost six million folks in want. Jamaica was the toughest hit, and the World Meals Programme (WFP) has been working carefully with the Jamaican authorities to offer meals and important provides to households struggling after the catastrophe.

Thus far, greater than 9,000 folks in Jamaica have obtained meals kits containing rice, lentils, canned fish, meat, and vegetable oil. Throughout Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti, WFP’s emergency efforts have reached over 254,000 folks. The donation from The Weeknd will enable WFP to develop its attain to as much as 200,000 folks in Jamaica, in accordance with Selection.

The XO Humanitarian Fund, launched by The Weeknd in 2022, is backed by proceeds from his “After Hours Til Daybreak” stadium tour. Since its launch, the fund has contributed over $6.5 million to starvation aid worldwide, together with assist for Gaza, Ethiopia, and wildfire aid in Los Angeles.

“His compassion will present much-needed consolation and resilience to Jamaicans as they navigate this disaster,” mentioned Barron Segar, President and CEO of World Meals Program USA. WFP is dependent upon donations from people and personal companions to reply shortly to disasters and supply meals and hope to households dealing with starvation and displacement.
