The Sacramento Observer has been named the best Black newspaper in the US for the seventh time

The Sacramento Observer received 16 different accolades on the 2023 Messenger Awards offered by the Nationwide Newspaper Publishers Affiliation (NNPA) in Nashville, Tennessee, together with recognition as one of the best Black newspaper within the US.

The Observer, which has been a supply of reports for the Black group in Northern California since 1962, received the John B. Russwurm Award for being one of the best Black newspaper within the nation; profitable the highest prize for the seventh time, in response to the Sacramento Bee.

The John B. Russwurm Award, which is given to the newspaper with the very best total rating, is the very best honor amongst six divisions of awards, together with fairness, perspective, tradition, creativity, digital, and viewers.

Greater than 200 African American-owned group newspapers throughout the nation are members of the NNPA – which hosts the awards ceremony.  

On the awards ceremony, OBSERVER Writer, Larry Lee, thanked the employees of The OBSERVER for his or her devoted work all through the event.

Moreover, Lee received “Writer of the Yr,” a title that was up for grabs towards greater than 200 Black newspapers and their publishers.

Based on BET, 4 first-place awards went to The Observer within the classes of newspaper excellence, video marketing campaign, particular version, and web site excellence. “I’m so grateful for our group,” Lee stated. “Successful awards reminiscent of these isn’t potential with out a nice group, and I’ll put our group up towards another newsroom within the nation,” The Observer famous.

The Observer has been a pioneer in delivering honesty and integrity to the Black group of the higher Sacramento space since 1962. Because of Dr. William Hanford Lee’s success as an actual property dealer and businessman, excellence in journalism was handed down by way of generations of shut family, all of whom contributed to the success of the newspaper, the place his son, Larry Lee at present holds the positions of writer and president.
