The famed Studio Museum in Harlem introduced that purposes at the moment are open for the 2026-2027 Artist-in-Residence program.
On April 13, the Studio Museum in Harlem introduced on Instagram that purposes at the moment are open for its coveted annual residency, providing an 11-month program for 3 artists of African descent from around the globe working in any medium.
“The residency program provides artists an unparalleled alternative to develop their apply from throughout the Museum’s partitions,” the Museum shared in its caption. “People chosen for the residency obtain institutional steerage, skilled improvement, analysis assist, studio area, and a stipend paid out over the course of the residency.”
The 2026–27 Artist-in-Residence program will run from Nov. 2, 2026, to Oct. 3, 2027, culminating in an in-house exhibition on the Studio Museum in Harlem. Since its founding in 1969, this system has supported greater than 150 artists of African and Afro-Latinx descent, shaping generations of up to date expertise.
Within the Eighties, then-director Mary Schmidt Campbell formalized the residency by standardizing its construction and cohort dimension. Chosen artists obtain studio area, a $37,500 stipend, and mentorship from museum workers and visiting arts professionals.

“One among my fondest recollections of being in this system is the camaraderie that I had with the opposite two artists [Terry Boddie and Nicole Awai], feeling that we have been all embarking on a brand new journey,” stated Sanford Biggers, a cohort throughout the 1999 – 2000 program.
