SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Town of Savannah will contribute $500,000 to renovate a home that when hosted an African American artwork museum.
The Savannah Metropolis Council voted Sept. 14 to provide the cash towards what’s projected to be a $1.2 million restoration of the Kiah Home, WTOC-TV reviews.
The home, in-built 1910, was bought in 1959 by Calvin and Virginia Kiah. He was a professor in Savannah State College’s training division, whereas she was a public faculty instructor, artist and curator.
The couple created the museum, ultimately including a two-story addition to the entrance of the home to make room for extra artwork and historic objects.
