RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia’s state Home will quickly have its first Black speaker in its greater than 400-year historical past after the chamber’s incoming Democratic majority on Nov. 11 selected Del. Don Scott to serve within the publish.

Scott was unanimously elected speaker-designee by the Home Democratic Caucus, the group mentioned in a information launch. The total Home of Delegates will vote to formally verify him on the primary day of the 2024 legislative session.
