*GOSPEL, a brand new four-hour PBS docuseries that explores the wealthy historical past of Black spirituality by means of sermons and songs from govt producer, host, and author Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
The collection reunites acclaimed Harvard scholar and documentarian Gates with administrators Stacey L. Holman and Shayla Harris after not too long ago teaming up on MAKING BLACK AMERICA: THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE. The collection may even have a particular companion live performance premiering on February 9. In GOSPEL, Gates, the Alphonse Fletcher College Professor at Harvard College and director of the Hutchins Middle for African and African American Analysis, speaks with dozens of clergymen, singers, and students about their connection to the music that has transcended its origins and now spreads “the great phrase” all around the globe. The collection options interviews with notable names together with Dionne Warwick, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, Rev. Otis Moss III, professor Michael Eric Dyson, and awe-inspiring musical performances of Gospel favorites “Can’t No person Do Me Like Jesus,” “Whole Reward,” and others from abilities together with The Belle Singers, Cory Henry, Celisse, and extra.

Stacey L. Holman is a Harlem-based filmmaker who has directed and produced a number of award-winning initiatives, together with episode three of the 2018 PBS collection RECONSTRUCTION: AMERICA AFTER THE CIVIL WAR hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. She was a producer on the critically acclaimed documentary TELL THEM WE ARE RISING: THE STORY OF BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES and served as affiliate producer on the Emmy award-winning movie FREEDOM RIDERS, produced and directed by Stanley Nelson. Moreover, Stacey was coordinating producer for Nelson’s Peabody award-winning documentary FREEDOM SUMMER, and he or she was co-producer on MARY LOU WILLIAMS: THE LADY WHO SWINGS THE BAND.
