Morgan State University officials cancel 2023 MSU Homecoming Parade, postpone football match and 39th Annual MSU Gala

Morgan State College (MSU) officers have determined to cancel or postpone all occasions associated to the 2023 homecoming season. 

In a message to the MSU neighborhood on Oct. 4, David Okay. Wilson, Ed.D., president of the establishment defined the choice.

“Right this moment, we sadly discover ourselves navigating this tragic occasion throughout a time at which we must be celebrating our Nationwide Treasure throughout Homecoming. Please perceive that the security of our campus is of the utmost significance and our resolve in guaranteeing that now we have a safe campus is paramount,” said Wilson, within the letter. “In response to final night’s occasions, we’re aggressively rising safety measures on campus, additional amplifying further safety measures which have been carried out lately.” 

“Concerning Homecoming, regrettably for the very first time in Morgan’s historical past all actions deliberate round Homecoming shall be both canceled or postponed till the perpetrator(s) of this atrocity have been discovered and dropped at justice,” defined Wilson. 

The establishment will postpone the MSU thirty ninth Annual Homecoming Gala, which was set for Oct. 6, and the soccer match in opposition to the Stony Brook College Seawolves that was deliberate for Oct. 7. 

Wilson mentioned in his letter that “canceled actions embrace: the Homecoming Live performance, Silent Headphones Get together, Homecoming Pep Rally, Homecoming Parade and all different on campus occasions together with our Woman Bear Volleyball match.”

College students are being supplied counseling and lessons had been canceled for the rest of the week. 

Wilson mentioned the alternatives made had been powerful.
