Mike Epps clarifies previous ‘misunderstood’ comments about food stamps, prison release celebrations

Actor and comic Mike Epps was not too long ago on the heart of rising criticism on social media after sharing his views on Black communities’ massive celebrations of jail releases and reliance on meals stamps. On Monday, the comic took to social media to make clear the feedback he sats have been misunderstood. 

“I simply need to get on right here and make clear and clear just a few issues up. Primary, in regards to the brothers coming house from jail being celebrated,” he mentioned, affirming his help for reform. “I believe you guys may need misunderstood what I used to be saying. I may need mentioned it the incorrect method, however what I used to be making an attempt to say is, we don’t need to ship youngsters combined messages about coming house from jail being celebrated. Along with clarifying his feedback on Jones’ podcast, the comic additionally took a second to handle the controversy surrounding his statements about meals stamps. Throughout an look on the Breakfast Membership, Epps shared that he was ”glad” SNAP advantages has been reduce off. 

“I instructed folks when these meals stamps and stuff get reduce off, ‘Don’t fear about that,’” he mentioned on the time. “See, Black folks, we’ve been getting our shit reduce off. We’ve been getting our doorways kicked in and stuff. This isn’t for us.”

He continued: “So don’t take this as private in regards to the meals stamps and all that. I’m really glad they’re chopping a few of these n—s off meals stamps as a result of a few of us have to not be on meals stamps as a result of it’s a trickle-down impact.”

In his newest video, he says, “the meals stamp factor was misunderstood, too.”

“What I used to be saying is that we have to break the cycle of being on meals stamps,” he continued. “There are three generations of people that have been on meals stamps, of grandmother, mom, and daughter, that’s loopy. We gotta do higher. We will’t assume that we’d like help. I do know there are some folks on the market that want help, that’s effectively, tremendous, and understood, however there are folks on the market profiting from the system, that’s not good.” 

Epps concluded his video with a basic apology to everybody to anybody he has offended.
