Med schools under scrutiny for race-based admissions

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has opened investigations into how race is taken into account in admissions at three medical colleges, ratcheting up its strain marketing campaign in opposition to schools and universities.

The Justice Division opened the investigations March 25 into attainable discrimination on the medical colleges of Stanford College, Ohio State and the College of California, San Diego. Harmeet Dhillon, the Justice Division’s assistant legal professional basic for civil rights, introduced the investigations on X.

In a letter to Ohio State, Dhillon wrote that the Justice Division was looking for any paperwork associated to “the use or lack of use of race” in evaluating candidates. A separate, five-page doc particulars the data the federal government is looking for. It contains information on standardized check scores, data collected or inferred on race and ethnicity, and admissions choices for every applicant going again to the incoming class that began in 2019.

Ohio State spokesperson Benjamin Johnson stated the varsity is compliant with state and federal laws and authorized rulings concerning admissions. “We’ve obtained the hooked up letter and can reply appropriately,” he stated.
