Maxwell Frost says he was assaulted in racially motivated attack at Sundance Film Festival

Police in Park Metropolis, Utah, arrested a person who allegedly attacked Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., and mentioned that President Donald Trump would deport him.

The 29-year-old Democrat was attending a celebration on the Sundance Movie Competition on Friday (January 23) when somebody who reportedly trespassed the occasion screamed racist remarks at him and punched him within the face.

Confirming the information on social media yesterday, Frost wrote, “Final evening, I used to be assaulted by a person at Sundance Competition who instructed me that Trump was going to deport me earlier than he punched me within the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The person was arrested and I’m okay.”

Frost then thanked the venue safety and Park Metropolis Police Division for helping him following the assault.

In response to Selection, a 28-year-old white man named Christian Joel Younger crashed the invitation-only occasion hosted by the expertise company CAA at Park Metropolis’s Excessive West Saloon, the place Frost was in attendance.

The incident occurred when Younger and Frost had been within the bar’s restroom, the place Younger reportedly acknowledged he was proud to be white. Frost is of Puerto Rican, Lebanese, and Haitian descent and was adopted and raised by a Cuban mom and an American father.

Fox 13 Salt Lake Metropolis reported that Frost and a pal had been approached by Younger, who pulled them in for a hug, saying, “we’re going to deport you and your variety.” Frost and his pal reacted by pushing Younger away, earlier than he yelled a racial slur and punched Frost within the face.

Police charged Younger with aggravated housebreaking and two counts of easy assault.

U.S. Home of Representatives Democratic Chief Hakeem Jeffries spoke out in assist of Frost on X.

“I’m horrified by the assault on Congressman Maxwell Frost,” he mentioned. “Grateful that he’s okay, however appalled that this terrifying assault came about. The perpetrator have to be aggressively prosecuted. Hate and political violence has no place in our nation, and your complete Home Democratic Caucus household stands with Maxwell.”

Frost has been vocal on immigration rights, lately taking measures to warn his Central Florida constituency concerning the prevalence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement of their communities. Final week, he criticized ICE for utilizing taxpayer cash to construct “internment camps in our communities,” as an alternative of healthcare and housing.

Yesterday, he wrote one other message on his private X account, reassuring followers that he’s positive and refuses to be silenced by the assault.

“I’m okay. Thanks for all of the properly needs. We’re in scary occasions. Please keep secure and don’t let these folks silence you. Onwards.”
