Mattel Celebrates 45 Years of Black Barbie and Black History Month with Limited-Edition Dolls

Nationwide — In celebration of Black Historical past Month and the forty fifth anniversary of Black Barbie, Mattel has partnered with the Black In Style Council (BIFC). The collaboration honors Kitty Black Perkins, the creator and designer of the very first Black Barbie, with the discharge of a limited-edition Black Barbie, a Nineteen Eighties-themed assortment, and a Black Historical past Month attire line.

The partnership with BIFC, introduced on February 19, goals to encourage younger Black ladies to discover careers in trend and design, based on BET.

In an Instagram submit, Mattel Mattel paid tribute to Black Barbie’s creator, Kitty Black Perkins, who was the Chief Designer for Barbie and labored at Mattel for 28 years.

“Amongst her many contributions, displaying the true energy of illustration in toys was maybe her most impactful. Our anniversary tribute stuns in a scarlet look impressed by the unique Nineteen Eighties doll and is certain to be the showstopper of any assortment,” it acknowledged.

Lindsay Peoples, co-founder of BIFC, shared her pleasure in regards to the partnership, saying, “It has been so rewarding to witness our group Black in Style Council drive long-lasting change within the trend trade. Now we are able to add Barbie to our listing of companions who share our dedication to breaking down boundaries and creating extra alternatives for future generations of Black designers.”

To mark Black Historical past Month, the partnership highlights a bunch of influential designers, together with Larissa Muehleder, Nia Thomas, and Fumi Egbon, every recognized for his or her distinctive contributions to trend.

The limited-edition Black Barbie, together with the Nineteen Eighties-themed assortment and Black Historical past Month attire, is now accessible on Amazon.
