Killer Mike Sues Grammys Private Security After Arrest at 2024 Ceremony

Killer Mike is suing the personal safety firms that labored the 2024 Grammys after the Atlanta rapper was arrested on the ceremony.

Following his three-award sweep eventually yr’s Grammys, Mike was detained by safety and arrested by the LAPD for misdemeanor battery whereas making an attempt to entry the crimson carpet space of the occasion. Mike was launched from custody hours later. In accordance with the lawsuit obtained by Selection, Mike is now suing S&S Labor Pressure, Inc. and JRM Personal Safety for false arrest, assault and battery amongst different fees, claiming that they had “no authority in regulation” to detain him and “no purpose” to suspect him of any crime.

“Regardless of Plaintiff’s a number of makes an attempt to make clear his identification and function for being in that secured space and his direct must entry the crimson carpet space for scheduled public statements and to take pictures, Defendants refused Plaintiff any ahead motion,” the lawsuit reads. “When Plaintiff sought to go away the world, Defendants bodily assaulted and battered him to stop him from leaving by grabbing his arm and telling him to stay there.”

Mike didn’t instantly reply to Selection‘s request for remark.

The lawsuit notes that the Los Angeles Metropolis Lawyer’s Workplace “declined to prosecute or cost” Mike following the altercation, due to this fact “recognizing [Mike] had not dedicated any legal act.”

“Defendants knew, or within the train of cheap diligence ought to have identified, that there was no justification in regulation to detain or use extreme power in opposition to Plaintiff at a Grammy Awards ceremony meant to rejoice his work,” the lawsuit states. “However that information, Defendants brought about the false arrest and wrongful imprisonment of Plaintiff.”
