Property taxes rise, rents skyrocket, and longtime residents are pressured to go away. The aim has at all times been to stop generational Black wealth from taking root. However this doesn’t need to be our future. We’ve got the facility to interrupt this cycle—if we’re prepared to behave. It begins with data. We should train our historical past—not simply the suffer- ing, however the power, the organizing, the resistance. We should educate our youngsters and our communities about how these programs work, how they’ve developed, and the way we will combat them. We should additionally prioritize constructing and defending Black wealth—supporting Black-owned banks and companies, educating monetary literacy, and keep- ing our bucks circulating inside our communities. Political engagement is vital. We should vote in each election, advocate for insurance policies that profit our communities, and maintain elected officers accountable. The system fights our vote as a result of it fears our energy. That’s why we will by no means afford to sit down out. And we should take again our story. Black-led media and impartial plat- types are important in countering the misrepresentations which have plagued our folks for hundreds of years. Once we management our narrative, we management our future.

Lastly, we should strengthen our communities. Unity has at all times been our biggest weapon. Once we assist each other, after we refuse to let out- facet forces divide us, after we construct networks rooted in love, accountability, and shared goal—we grow to be unstoppable. Historical past solely repeats itself after we let it. Our ancestors gave an excessive amount of, sacrificed an excessive amount of, fought too onerous for us to be caught in the identical cycles. We owe it to them—and to ourselves—to jot down a distinct future. We aren’t powerless. We’re highly effective past measure. The query is: what’s going to we do with that energy? Will we permit the previous to dictate our future— or will we rise, resist, and rewrite the story? It’s time to cease historical past from repeating. It’s time to alter the ending.
