Family of 7-Year-Old Kansas Boy Tortured By His Father and Stepmother Before Being Feed to Pigs Will Receive $1M Settlement for State’s Neglect

Kansas officers authorised a $1 million settlement to the household of a 7-year-old boy whose physique was fed to pigs after he was tortured beneath the care of his father. 

Adrian Jones’ mom, sister, and grandmother filed a lawsuit in 2017 accusing the state welfare staff of failing to “step in” and save Adrian “at any level through the baby’s prolonged, unimaginable ordeal,” The Related Press reported. The settlement was introduced final week, avoiding the trial that will’ve kicked off subsequent 12 months.

After his mom misplaced custody, Adrian began dwelling together with his father and stepmother earlier than his dying, The New York Put up reported. Michael and Heather Jones are presently serving a 25-year to life sentence in connection to his homicide.

“This has been an extended journey for Adrian’s household,” Matt Birch, the household’s lawyer, instructed the outlet. “An important factor for the household was to hopefully make a change and make this much less more likely to occur sooner or later.”

Following the incident, state officers enacted “Adrian’s Regulation” in 2021 to enhance the system. It “requires the Kansas Division for Kids and Households (DCF) or a consultant of the regulation enforcement company investigating the report back to each visually observe and work together with kids alleged to be victims of abuse and neglect.”
