Emergency Legislation Planned to Aid Port Employees After Key Bridge Collapse

Maryland lawmakers are making ready to introduce emergency laws to offer monetary reduction to port workers affected by the Key Bridge collapse, as 1000’s of livelihoods are at stake.

State Senate President Invoice Ferguson (D), representing Baltimore Metropolis, introduced on social media Wednesday morning that he’s collaborating with Del. Luke Clippinger (D) and different lawmakers whose districts embrace the Port of Baltimore to expedite emergency measures.

In response to Ferguson, over 15,000 people within the Baltimore area rely on port operations for his or her jobs.

“The human value of lives misplaced yesterday is overwhelming and tragic,” Ferguson wrote on X. “The financial and stability loss to the 1000’s impacted within the days forward can’t be understated.”

Ferguson and different officers, together with Gov. Wes Moore (D) and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D), mentioned they acknowledge the urgency of getting folks again to work and stopping large earnings losses.

The governor and mayor have led efforts because the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, which occurred within the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 26, after a Singapore-registered cargo ship collided with a bridge pillar.
