Dwayne Johnson understands the backlash over wildfire recovery fund

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson understands the “backlash” he confronted after launching a Maui wildfire restoration fund.

The 51-year-old star joined forces with Oprah Winfrey in August to launch the Folks’s Fund for Maui, however the celeb duo confronted criticism after they known as on the general public to contribute to the fund.

“Once we first launched the fund, there was some backlash that got here with launching the fund, and I need to handle that backlash. I get it, and I fully perceive, and I might have been higher. And subsequent time, I will likely be higher,” Johnson – who pledged to donate $10 million alongside Winfrey – wrote on Instagram.

The wrestler-turned-actor – who beforehand lived in Hawaii – acknowledged that occasions are presently robust for hundreds of thousands of People.

Johnson conceded that cash is “not rising on timber.”

The actor and Winfrey took to social media in August to launch the wildfire restoration fund.

As we’ve seen firsthand, the impacts of those wildfires have been devastating, and we’re right here to make sure with one hundred pc assure that your donations will go instantly into the palms of Lahaina residents,” Winfrey, 69, posted on Instagram.

“Each grownup resident who lives within the affected space and was displaced by the wildfires in Lahaina and Kula is eligible to obtain $1200 monthly to assist them via this era of restoration. All it’s important to do is go to PeoplesFundofMaui.org to use. We’re honored to begin this marketing campaign with $10 million and ask in your assist in donating to those that have misplaced their houses. We thanks prematurely in your contribution.
