Dr. F. DuBois Bowman Named 13th President Of Morehouse

Dr. Bowman is a member of the Nationwide Academy of Medication and a fellow of each the American Statistical Affiliation and the American Affiliation for the Development of Science. For Bowman, a 1992 graduate of Morehouse Faculty, this marks a full-circle second in his journey as a public well being chief. A proud member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he has remained deeply engaged together with his alma mater—not solely as a two-time Morehouse dad or mum but additionally as a mentor and advocate.

He has performed a key position in making a pipeline program connecting college students from Morehouse and Spelman Schools to alternatives on the College of Michigan. In recognition of his contributions, Bowman obtained Morehouse’s highest alumni honor in 2019, the Bennie Trailblazer Award, named after the Faculty’s sixth president, Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays. The award acknowledges alumni who’ve made important contributions to their fields and have served as constructive position fashions for others. 

“Returning to Morehouse as its thirteenth president is the distinction of a lifetime,” Dr. Bowman mentioned in a press release. “This establishment formed who I’m—instilling a dedication to excellence, justice, and impression. I’m excited to companion with school, employees, college students, alumni, and supporters to construct on our legacy and write the following chapter of Morehouse’s transformative story.” 

Willie Woods, the chairman of the Morehouse Faculty Board of Trustees, referred to as the previous Columbia College and Emory College educator a “visionary.” Woods expressed his pleasure to see how Dr. Bowman will proceed to form and impression Morehouse as president. 

“Dr. Bowman’s report of visionary management, his deep dedication to tutorial excellence, and his lifelong dedication to Morehouse make him the perfect selection to steer the school into its subsequent period,” Woods shared. “He brings a unprecedented mix of mental rigor, strategic considering, and values-driven management.”

In keeping with 11Alive, President Thomas will step down in June. Previous to the announcement of Dr. Bowman as his successor, the 68-year-old shared with the outlet that he felt the time was proper for a transition, a generational shift in management that may hopefully breathe new life into Morehouse. 

“I feel it’s time for the child boomers to depart this stage,” he added. “The technology behind us has new concepts, new methods of participating.”
