DA warns Ramaphosa against copying Zimbabwe after praise speech

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has sharply criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for commending Zimbabwe’s land reform programme throughout his go to to Harare final week.

Ramaphosa visited Zimbabwe on the invitation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and attended the annual Zimbabwe Agricultural Present as visitor of honour.

Ramaphosa Highlights Agricultural Revival

Talking on the occasion, he praised Zimbabwe for revitalising its agricultural sector by means of coverage reforms, funding in irrigation, mechanisation, and help for each large- and small-scale farmers.

“On independence in 1980, the brand new democratic authorities of Zimbabwe needed to dismantle colonial-era patterns of land possession,” Ramaphosa stated.

“Most commercially productive land and large-scale farms had been owned by whites, whereas the black majority was confined to communal lands.

It was important for historic redress, meals safety, improvement, and financial development that the federal government enabled black Zimbabweans to enter productive agriculture, together with help to small-scale farmers.”

DA Condemns Reward

Reacting to Ramaphosa’s remarks, DA nationwide spokesperson and MP Willie Aucamp stated the president “wrongfully praised” a programme that devastated Zimbabwe’s financial system.

“The DA condemns and rejects this reward by Ramaphosa for a course of which left Zimbabwe in tatters, destroyed its financial system and international relations, and created famine for its folks,” Aucamp stated.

He stated Zimbabwe confronted crippling monetary reparations to former farmers and landowners as a result of the federal government didn’t legally switch the land.

DA Increase Considerations Over South Africa’s Land Coverage

Aucamp additionally accused Ramaphosa of utilizing Zimbabwe’s expertise to help the ANC’s land expropriation agenda below the 2025 Expropriation Act.

“Whereas acknowledging the necessity for land reform in South Africa, it should stay inside the Structure and rule of legislation. Expropriation With out Compensation doesn’t meet this commonplace,” he stated.

He emphasised that the Authorities of Nationwide Unity doesn’t endorse Zimbabwe’s “land confiscation” mannequin.
