Congressman pleads guilty to pulling Capitol fire alarm

(NNPA NEWSWIRE) – New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman, charged with falsely activating the hearth alarm at a congressional workplace constructing earlier than final month’s vote on a stopgap spending measure to fund the federal government, pleaded responsible on Oct. 26.

“I’m grateful for the fast decision from the District of Columbia Lawyer Basic’s workplace on this situation and grateful that the USA Capitol Police Basic Counsel’s workplace agreed I didn’t hinder nor intend to hinder any Home vote or proceedings,” Bowman mentioned forward of his plea. “I’m liable for activating a fireplace alarm, I can be paying the high-quality issued, and stay up for these costs being finally dropped. The workplace of the D.C. lawyer normal confirmed in an announcement that Bowman “is pleading responsible and has agreed to pay the utmost high-quality.”

Based on courtroom paperwork, surveillance footage examined by the Capitol Police exhibits Bowman allegedly trying on the doorways that learn “Emergency Exit Solely Push Till Alarm Sounds.” Based on the grievance, Bowman pulled the alarm and later allegedly walked by Capitol Law enforcement officials with out alerting them.
