“We will carry out all forms of comedy. Stand-up, sketch, improv, music, dance—we do all of it. If you come to a Reek Havoc present, you’re getting every little thing in the identical pot.”

Reek Havoc was born out of each love and loss. The group’s namesake is a tribute to Tariq “Brother Reek”’ Jackson, a beloved comic, director, and author who handed away. His spirit lives on within the group’s DNA.

“Reek was one of the crucial comedically timed individuals you’d ever meet,” says Marquise Alston. She describes his genius as a present, in a position to flip even probably the most awkward silence right into a punchline.

Whereas they entertain, their debut present serves a higher objective. Impressed by the current California wildfires, the group felt compelled to provide again to these affected.

“The wildfires shook us,” says Alston. “We needed to evacuate in the course of a gathering. A few of us left our houses not understanding if we’d come again to something. That have modified us.”

Decided to make a distinction, Reek Havoc determined to donate proceeds from their debut present to Turquoise & Salt, a enterprise in Altadena that has change into a refuge for wildfire survivors.

“They opened their doorways to these in want,” says Alexander. “So, we needed assist out.”

This one-night-only occasion guarantees a high-energy, no-holds-barred comedy expertise.

Not like conventional sketch exhibits like SNL or MADtv, Reek Havoc mixes a number of types of comedy right into a single efficiency.

“We’re not bringing in outdoors performers,” says Alexander. “The whole lot you see is us. It’s like a comedy competition packed into one night time.”

Going down in an intimate 50-seat black field theater, the present presents a close-up expertise with the performers.

“We needed to maintain it small and construct demand,” says Alexander. “That manner, individuals will go away saying, ‘I gotta catch the following one.’”

Past the stage, Reek Havoc is gearing up for digital domination with a three-tier plan: stay exhibits, short-form digital content material, and long-form productions. With comedy, activism, and innovation at its core, Reek Havoc is able to make its mark.

“That is just the start,” says Alexander. Reek Havoc is introducing a daring and dynamic new comedy expertise, delivering contemporary, high-energy performances that promise to depart a long-lasting impression.

Doorways open at 6:30 p.m., and the present kicks off at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and accessible on Eventbrite at eventbrite.com/e/reek-havoc-a-comedy-benefit-show-tickets-1246339728679
