Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa Strikes A Perfect Chord of Success

*Napa Valley  – The second annual Blue Notice Jazz Competition Napa, a euphoric celebration of music, tradition, and camaraderie, lately concluded with 43 scheduled live shows on three phases and simply as many drop the mic, impromptu moments by performing and visitor artists.

Day 1

Showcasing the range of jazz and its affect on varied music genres with a powerful array of performers, together with Massive Freedia, Ari Lennox, The Soul Rebels, Adam Blackstone, Madlib, Cordae, Parliament Funkadelic that includes George Clinton, Ghost Notice, Frédéric Yonnet, and Soulive. A magical second was captured when Robert Glasper and De La Soul, with Talib Kweli sitting in for Dave Jolicoeur, carried out “Me, Myself, and I” on stage with George Clinton, who’s sampled on the monitor.

By night, the grounds had been full of anticipation as Mary J. Nas headlined to a crowd that knew each phrase of his traditional hits like “One Mic”, “Hate Me Now,” “N.Y. State of Thoughts,” and “If I Dominated The World,” that includes shock visitor brass band, The Soul Rebels. Nas stood on stage, his music floating throughout the gang that was captivated by the combo of hip-hop and jazz. The solar setting past the Napa horizon bathed Nas in a golden mild, and he smiled broadly as he swayed the gang to the beats of his personal music.

The efficiency closed with Chappelle directing The Soul Rebels in a transferring and emotional rendition of the Church hymn, “Only a Nearer Stroll with Thee,” joined on stage by Nas and Robert Glasper.

Day 3

Robert Glasper’s Sunday set, hosted by Dave Chappelle, featured Bilal. Throughout Bilal’s rendition of Earth, Wind, and Fireplace’s “Causes,” EWF member Phillip Bailey graced the stage, making a shock look and exercising his enviable vocal vary and distinctive falsetto.

Competition goers that ventured to the Blue Notice Stage space caught an much more intimate vibe because the stage anchored the Wine Backyard and “Yard” experiences. NBA champion and wine entrepreneur Dwyane Wade served because the competition’s Director of Tradition and Vibes and helped elevate the friends’ expertise by internet hosting two pop-up Wade Cellars’ “When We Collect” occasions with Chef Darryl Bell of Stateline Street Smokehouse.

Along with Wade Cellars, Black and Black-women-owned companies had been represented within the wine area by Robin and Andréa McBride, of McBride Sisters Wine Firm; Carissa and Kenneth Stephens, of Pur Noire City Wineries; and Theodora Lee, proprietor of Theopolis Vineyards and native winery Duckhorn Portfolio. Rapper and podcaster Talib Kweli engaged in insightful conversations with De La Soul, George Clinton, Robert Glasper, and Ari Melber for his standard podcast, “The Folks’s Social gathering with Talib Kweli.” Derrick “D-Good” Jones, harmonicist FrédéricYonnet, and trumpeter Keyon Harold took to the sofa for a dialog on the affect of jazz on hip hop whereas Ari Melber interviewed Robert Glasper and, later, Probability the Rapper.
