The group launched a press release insisting the muse “is just not a goal of any federal legal investigation” and being dedicated to full transparency, accountability, and the accountable stewardship of assets devoted to constructing a greater future for Black communities.”

The Black Lives Matter (BLM) Basis is underneath investigation by the Division of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly defrauding donors who gave greater than $90 million throughout the motion rebellion in 2020, CBS Information studies.

Federal officers have issued subpoenas and served at the very least one search warrant to the Black Lives Matter International Community Basis, Inc. — a separate entity from the protest actions — and different organizations led by Black leaders to highlight racial bias and circumstances of police brutality.

A report disclosed that the BLM Basis raised over $90 million in 2020 and had greater than $28 million in property as of June 2024. The group’s funds had been questioned after spending greater than $6 million to buy a home in Los Angeles. In 2022, the group defended the acquisition with a press release on its web site. They claimed the home served a particular objective “as an area for Black of us to share their items with the world and hone their craft as they see match, underneath the situations that work finest for them and in a protected house free from methods of oppression that exist in varied inventive industries.”

It’s unknown when the investigation was first launched; nevertheless, the case is being overseen by the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace for the Central District of California underneath the management of U.S. Lawyer Invoice Essayli, a President Donald Trump appointee. The group launched a press release insisting the muse “is just not a goal of any federal legal investigation.” “We stay dedicated to full transparency, accountability, and the accountable stewardship of assets devoted to constructing a greater future for Black communities,” the muse mentioned, based on the Washington Examiner.

The announcement sparked questions of bias on social media, given the Trump administration’s current pardon of former Rep. George Santos for comparable costs that BLM is being accused of. The disgraced New York chief pleaded responsible to wire fraud and identification theft costs and was sentenced to seven years in jail in April 2025.

Trump commuted Santos’ jail sentence, claiming he was “horribly mistreated” and set him free since he’s “ALWAYS” voting with Republicans.

On social media, customers are curious as to why one stands over the opposite. “Two-tiered justice system. Santos was pardoned by Pedo Trump after pleading responsible to wire fraud/identification theft. Santos deceived donors/stole their identities,” @lqlana wrote.

“Now the DOJ is investigating BLM for fraud. #DemsUnited I assume Republican crime is nice crime.”

Others seemingly pushed again on Black voters who supported Trump within the 2024 presidential election with claims that their vote wouldn’t be taken benefit of, questioning in the event that they really feel the identical.
