The NextAct Cinema was based in 2019 by brothers Anthony Fykes and Robert Wright.
One of many solely Black-owned and family-operated film theaters in the USA closed its doorways this week. NextAct Cinema shut down on Dec. 30, as reported by CBS Information.
NextAct didn’t give a purpose for the closure.
The theater introduced on social media, “It’s with a heavy coronary heart that we announce the closing of NextAct Cinema on December 30, 2024. For the previous seven years, we’ve had the privilege of bringing the magic of films to Pikesville and creating an area the place tales got here to life, recollections had been made, and connections had been constructed.”
The submit continued, “Your unwavering assist, from attending screenings to sharing laughs and celebrating milestones with us, has meant the world. NextAct Cinema was greater than only a theater; it was a neighborhood, and that was solely attainable due to you.”

As beforehand reported by BLACK ENTERPRISE, NextAct Cinema is a Black family-owned movie show that opened in Baltimore, Maryland, in March of 2019.
The theater was met with principally constructive opinions after its opening, and it was based by brothers Anthony Fykes and Robert Wright. Wright and Fykes wished to create an “unbiased boutique theater that provides a singular, personalised movie-going expertise.”
NextAct Cinema works to fight a “cinema desert,” or a spot that lacks any film theaters. That is significantly outstanding in Black communities throughout the nation.
Fykes mentioned on the time, “We didn’t need to be an AMC. We don’t need to be a Cine-Bistro. The concept behind NextAct Cinema is that you’re coming to a theater that appears like your own home.”
