Black Mom Ordered to Pay White Teen $3.2M for Calling Him a Racist Bully

Nationwide — Summer season Smith, the African American mother whose teenage son, SeMarion Humphrey, was tricked into ingesting urine at a birthday sleepover, has been ordered to pay $3.2 million to the white teen she allegedly known as a racist bully. The jury dominated her claims triggered extreme emotional misery and invaded the teenager’s privateness.

In 2021, Asher Vann, then an eighth-grader in Plano, Texas, was caught on video with classmates throughout a birthday sleepover enjoying pranks on SeMarion Humphrey. The video confirmed the kids tricking Humphrey into ingesting his personal urine.

Smith publicly accused Vann of racially motivated bullying, claiming he and his buddies used slurs and even shot her son with a BB gun. Her posts attracted nationwide consideration, with requires the kids to be punished. Police investigated however by no means arrested or charged anybody.

Now 19 and in school, Vann mentioned the incident was not about race. “This wasn’t me doing a racist act. This isn’t me hating somebody due to their pores and skin coloration. This was me at an immature stage of my life at a sleepover for my birthday, doing immature, dumb issues,” he mentioned. “It was immature. It was silly. It was nasty. However that’s not who I’m, and that’s not me in the present day.”

Vann filed a lawsuit, arguing that Smith’s social media marketing campaign ruined his life. The jury agreed, awarding him $3.2 million in damages, in accordance with the New York Publish.

Smith mentioned she plans to enchantment and defended her actions as defending her son. “I by no means needed anybody to threaten anybody on the faculty or something. I merely needed them to be held accountable within the correct approach,” she mentioned, although she acknowledged Vann confronted public abuse through the years.
