BAM’s annual tribute to Dr. King will collect group members, artists, and civic leaders for a day of activism, music, and actions.
BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso will welcome artists, activists, and group members to BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera Home on Monday, Jan. 20, for the thirty ninth Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In accordance with a press launch, the annual occasion is “New York Metropolis’s largest celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King.”
The occasion will function performances in remembrance of the late civil rights activist’s journey towards justice and equality. Kiri Moore of Ailey II will carry out an excerpt from the previous Alvin Ailey inventive director Judith Jamison’s 1984 choreographic work, Divining.

The intergenerational pop-up choir group, The Fireplace Ensemble, will carry out its mix of gospel, soul, and musical theater. The choir, based by Kentucky-born composer Troy Anthony, facilities BIPOC and queer voices who carry out works rooted in predominantly Black musical kinds. Throughout this 12 months’s occasion, the choir welcomes group members to take part in its tribute efficiency. (People excited by lending their voices are inspired to enroll to attend rehearsals.)
