NOT WHAT JESUS WOULD DO

White evangelicals and soft-headed Christians of shade are rejoicing on the information that unlicensed spiritual chaplains will now be allowed to work in Texas public colleges—no certification or classroom expertise required—due to a brand new regulation signed by Abbott. And with the GOP takeover of HISD, we all know which means a sure sort of chaplain. One who subscribes to the model of religion adhered to by Trump, Uncle Ruckus, the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, the white home terrorist Proud Boys who wished to hold Mike Pence (and all Democrats), and all these good Christian people over the centuries who led and/or participated within the lynchings of Black individuals and the destruction of Black Wall Streets nationwide. You understand; these white Christo-nationalists who cheered on the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Freddie Grey, Sandra Bland and George Floyd. And this fall, they’ll be counseling your children; kids they don’t even see as human.

LIBRARIES-TO-SCHOOL JAILS TRAVESTY

If there was ever any doubt in regards to the dubiousness of the state/TEA takeover of HISD, state-appointed superintendent Mike Miles put all doubts to relaxation when he introduced his plan to show libraries on 28 Black and Brown colleges into detention facilities and fireplace their librarians—librarians who’re very often essentially the most realized and degreed and credentialed educators within the constructing. Librarians, who’ve for many years uncovered kids to the fun of studying and lifelong studying. College libraries, which, for a few years, have been the one libraries Black college students may enter. Libraries, house to data and sources people on the mistaken aspect of the Digital Divide can entry since they will’t accomplish that at house. College libraries, arguably essentially the most beloved locations on college campuses (subsequent to the cafeteria and health club). And Miles desires to remodel them into on-campus jails? Lord, Lord.

NFL REMINDS US WHO THEY ARE

Although there are a number of states racing to show they’re essentially the most anti-Black, it’s actually solely a two-horse race between Texas and Florida. And positive, Texas has voter suppression and gerrymandering on steroids; outlawed variety and fairness; and seeks to show libraries in Black and Brown colleges into detention facilities. However Florida is what the youngfolk name a “Actual One.” Florida’s anti-Black road cred is so deep, the NAACP issued a “journey advisory” warning Blackfolk to avoid the “Sunset State.” But, whereas the Alphas and different organizations are pulling their conferences out of Florida in protest, the NFL simply introduced it’s transferring its Professional Bowl to Orlando, giving a full-throated endorsement of the state’s anti-Blackness. Bear in mind, the NFL remains to be whitelisting Kaepernick, under-hiring Black coaches and doing their Black alums soiled relating to advantages. And now this. Maya Angelou informed us way back, “When somebody reveals you who they’re, imagine them.”
