Alfre Woodard, J.K. Simmons Star in ‘The Thing That Hurts’

French auteur Arnaud Desplechin has began taking pictures his subsequent function, “The Factor That Hurts,” a bittersweet comedy led by an all-star worldwide forged together with Alfre Woodard, J.Ok. Simmons, Felicity Jones, Jason Schwartzman and Noémie Merlant, alongside Golshifteh Farahani, André Holland and Teddie Allen.

Government produced by Wes Anderson, the movie began filming on Tuesday (April 7) and can happen on location in Brussels and Paris. The film has been boarded by Gravel Lake Leisure, Grant Mohrman’s newly launched gross sales firm.

Written by Desplechin and Kamen Velkovsky, the movie facilities on a bunch of sufferers who converge in Paris following the demise of their famend American psychoanalyst. What begins as a gathering to honor his reminiscence evolves into an intimate reckoning, as surprising connections emerge and long-buried truths floor, revealing the profound and lasting affect the therapist had on every of their lives. The movie is produced by Daya Fernandez, Amaury Nolasco and Alois Rubenbauer for 3SIX9 Studios; Charles Gillibert for CG Cinema (“The Chronology of Water”); Kamen Velkovsky and Atilla Yücer for Alaz Movie (“Sentimental Worth”); and Benoit Roland for Unsuitable Males. It’s financed by Silver Display World.

Speaking concerning the challenge to Selection final month, Desplechin described “The Factor That Hurts” as a comedy about expats in Paris, “somewhat like ‘Midnight in Paris.’”

“There are seven tales. “Like ‘Seven Samurai’ or ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ And within the center there may be the queen — the psychoanalyst,” mentioned Desplechin, who added that he contributed to the script by sharing the numerous humorous psychoanalysis tales he is aware of, whereas Velkovsky introduced his love of American comedy.

“The Factor That Hurts” marks Gravel Lake Leisure’s first acquisition. “The filmmakers on the heart of Gravel Lake’s work are the sorts of artists AI will sometime try to duplicate, unique voices whose perspective defines what cinema might be,” mentioned Mohrman. “Our mission is to search out them, shield that imaginative and prescient, and join their work to audiences in every single place.”
