AFDB’s Dr Adesina becomes fourth winner of the Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership

Dr Adesina to obtain prestigious biennial award and be part of choose group together with Dr Wole Soyinka and Thabo Mbeki.

The President of the African Improvement Financial institution, Dr. Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, turns into the fourth winner of the extremely prestigious and far wanted Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Management.

The Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Management arrange in April 1992 is devoted to immortalising the democratic and development-oriented beliefs of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Chief Awolowo, (1909 – 1987 performed a key position in Nigeria’s independence motion and was famend as a person of deep integrity and self-discipline.

Earlier winners of the award embrace: Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka (2012), former President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki (2014), and lawyer-educationist Chief Afe Babalola (2018).

Many nominations of eminent personalities who’ve made super contributions in numerous spheres of life have been acquired by the organisation and after a cautious, detailed and rigorous screening course of, Dr Adesina emerged because the unanimous alternative of a variety panel made up of distinguished Nigerians.

The prize not solely confers appreciable honour and recognition on the recipient, but additionally serves as a powerful incentive to individuals to pursue excellence in management and good governance.

A press release from the chairman of the award choice committee mentioned: “Since assuming workplace as President of the African Improvement Financial institution (AfDB), Dr. Adesina has labored relentlessly to contribute to the optimistic transformation of the continent. He has introduced management to bear in addressing a number of the challenges confronting the continent together with main and supporting modern efforts to struggle starvation and poverty.”

Commenting on the announcement, Goodluck Jonathan, the previous President of Nigeria mentioned “Adesina epitomises and combines qualities of extraordinary management which can be typically uncommon. He has the power to tackle large and tough challenges. He’s dedicated to ship insurance policies and programmes that remodel the lives of tens of millions of individuals.”

The previous British Prime Minister Tony Blair mentioned: “Adesina’s contributions to the African continent and international management have been distinctive. The African Improvement Financial institution has addressed a number of the best challenges of our time.”

Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President Emeritus of the World Meals Prize Basis, saluted Adesina’s dedication to meals safety and in offering crucial financing for a broad array of infrastructure initiatives so crucial to improvement and modernisation.

Former UN Secretary-Normal Ban Ki-moon mentioned, “I can consider no individual extra extremely certified or deserving of this prestigious award. Dr Adesina is cast in the identical mould as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a shining instance of management.

Three distinguished personalities had been conferred with the celebrated Award: Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, and the founding father of the Afe Babalola College, Aare Afe Babalola.

Expressing his appreciation for the Award and being within the firm of the three earlier eminent recipients, Dr Adesina mentioned he was delighted and honoured to have been chosen as a recipient of the celebrated award.
