Producer Teddy Riley Says He Regrets Saying He Would Work With R. Kelly Again

Nationwide — R&B legend Teddy Riley is apologizing for defending R. Kelly after suggesting he would assist launch 25 albums the singer reportedly recorded in jail. Riley says his love for music clouded his judgment, and he regrets his feedback.

Riley sparked backlash after a candid interview with the Los Angeles Instances selling his memoir Bear in mind the Instances. He had claimed he spoke to R. Kelly by cellphone and deliberate to contain traders in releasing the singer’s jail recordings.

He mentioned, “All people deserves a second probability. Everybody deserves to repent, and everybody will get forgiven by God while you come to him. Folks miss his music. I’m the messenger to convey R&B again.”

After the criticism, Riley posted a prolonged apology on Instagram. “If my feedback brought on harm, I sincerely apologize. That was by no means my intention,” he wrote. He added that whereas he loves music, it ought to by no means overshadow the ache survivors of abuse have endured.

In accordance with Vice, Riley clarified that his concepts about releasing Kelly’s music have been simply “a inventive concept mentioned in passing” and “it’s not one thing that can transfer ahead.” He famous, “Loving music and recognizing its cultural impression doesn’t imply condoning dangerous habits, and I need to be clear about that.”

“I take severely the impression that abuse and misconduct have had on survivors and their households. Their experiences matter, and so they need to be acknowledged with care and respect,” he emphasised.

R. Kelly stays behind bars, serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and intercourse trafficking convictions. Riley’s earlier feedback adopted a now-deleted Instagram publish during which he shared audio of Kelly overlaying a Chris Brown track and calling Riley the “King of R&B.”
