A Black woman-led sitcom ain’t full with out a theme music that units the tone—{smooth}, soulful and unforgettable. These reveals weren’t simply classics; their openings had been anthems, stamped within the tradition like your auntie’s favourite fragrance. We’ll without end be pleased about UPN and Disney, and we’ll without end miss 22-episode-long seasons of guffaws.

Let’s begin with Girlfriends, the gold customary. Angie Stone (relaxation in energy) gave us a silky-smooth melody that felt like a heat hug out of your bestie after a foul date. “My girlfriends… there by way of thick and skinny…”—you hear that and immediately image Joan, Toni, Maya and Lynn holding it down of their chaotic but aspirational lives.

Then there’s Dwelling Single, the place Queen Latifah didn’t simply star—she set the entire vibe. That “In a 90s kinda world…” was greater than a lyric; it was a declaration. The present made us need Brooklyn brownstones, lifelong friendships and a taste of our personal.

Moesha had Brandy giving us an early look into her journey into changing into the vocal bible. The catchy bop made you would like you had a diary as lit as hers. “Moe to the… E to the…”—the form of theme music that acquired caught in your head at college, irrespective of what number of instances you tried to deal with algebra.

When Sister, Sister hit the school years, the theme music leveled up proper together with Tia and Tamera. Gone had been the playful early ’90s vibes—this new intro was grown, polished and had the identical power as a contemporary silk press earlier than homecoming. Twitter rightfully dubbed it “The Silk Press Period” as a result of every little thing about it was crisp: the vocals had been richer, the harmonies smoother and the beat had that late ’90s R&B sophistication. It was giving future, ambition and the form of confidence you get if you lastly discover your fashion in school.

The That’s So Raven theme music is pure Disney magic—catchy, assured and immediately recognizable, identical to Raven-Symoné herself. Along with her powerhouse vocals and plain star energy, Raven wasn’t simply the face of the present; she was the queen of Disney, holding the community down throughout its prime period. Millennials nonetheless say Disney was at its peak when she reigned, and actually, they’re proper—no one was touching her!

For The Parkers, Countess Vaughn flipped the script with a theme that was large, daring and humorous—identical to Nikki Parker. “We’re the Parkers!” had the form of power that allow you to know the mother-daughter duo was right here to remain.

And we are able to’t overlook Half & Half—a slept-on gem with a theme music so {smooth} it may’ve been a hidden monitor on a Jill Scott album.

These intros weren’t simply soundtracks—they had been a vibe, a temper and the form of Blackness that stays with you lengthy after the display screen fades to black.
