Willow Smith Debuts New Fantasy Sci-Fi Novel This Spring

The multitalented daughter of Will and Jada Smith is following in her mum or dad’s footsteps by changing into an writer.

Black Defend Maiden, the historic fantasy novel written by Willow Smith, will hit bookshelves this Might.

The e-book is co-authored by Jess Hendel and printed by Penguin Random Home, which can be the writer of her father’s self-titled bestseller. In accordance with the writer’s web site, Black Defend Maiden tells the story of a teenage woman who’s kidnapped and taken away from her West African oasis. 

“This saga begins with Yafeu, a defiant but fiercely compassionate younger warrior who’s stolen from her house within the flourishing Ghānaian empire and brought to a distant kingdom within the North. There she is thrust into an odd, chilly world of savage protect maidens, tyrannical rulers, and mysterious gods.”

Black Defend Maiden was slated to debut in October 2022, however its launch was stalled after Smith and Hendel had been accused of making traditionally inaccurate and offensive depictions of African folks. Smith has by no means responded publicly to the backlash.

The revised version of the e-book has acquired a blessing from famed writer Tomi Adeyemi, who describes the novel as “Intimate, tender, and fiercely epic.” 

The Kids of Blood and Bone writer will be a part of Smith and Hendel for a dialog and e-book signing on the Strand Bookstore in New York Metropolis on Might 7.

In a 2022 interview with NME, the “Whip My Hair” singer mentioned she hopes to encourage others with this novel. 

“I’m so grateful to convey the story of Black Defend Maiden to the world,” Willow mentioned.

“At their core, the problems we’re dealing with now are the identical points we’ve confronted again and again all through our historical past. That’s why we create new narratives from completely different views and even look again into historical past for deep knowledge that may encourage & assist us evolve. My hope is that this story will do this for readers.”

The extremely anticipated novel might be bought in shops on Might 7 and is on the market for pre-order now.
