When dying comes
just like the hungry bear in autumn;
when dying comes and takes all the intense cash from his purse
to purchase me, and snaps the purse shut;
when dying comes
just like the measle-pox;
when dying comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,
I need to step by means of the door stuffed with curiosity, questioning:
what’s it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?
And due to this fact I look upon the whole lot
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as not more than an concept,
and I think about eternity as one other chance,
and I consider every life as a flower, as frequent
as a subject daisy, and as singular,
and every identify a cushty music within the mouth,
tending, as all music does, towards silence,
and every physique a lion of braveness, and one thing
treasured to the earth.
When it is over, I need to say: all my life
I used to be a bride married to amazement.
I used to be the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it is over, I do not need to marvel
if I’ve manufactured from my life one thing specific, and actual.
I do not need to discover myself sighing and frightened,
or stuffed with argument.
I do not need to find yourself merely having visited this world.
