Westchester Softball Wins City Section Championship   – Los Angeles Sentinel

The Westchester softball workforce defeated L.A.C.E.S. 12-9 to win the CIF Metropolis Part Division IV championship at Birmingham Excessive College. That is the primary time in 27 years that the Comets have gained a Metropolis Part championship in softball.  

“I really feel happy with my teammates,” stated junior Tyler Giddens. “Over time, particularly from the start of the season, we’ve had a number of probabilities to see one another develop and I really feel like that every one led up and added up particularly in the direction of the championship.” 

Senior Raine Inexperienced, and sophomores Eviyah Johnson and Laylah Ali hit three RBI every. Ali pitched for seven innings, hanging out eight batters.

“I like seeing my teammates hit the ball and we’re all coming in, chanting their names,” Arianna stated. “After we win, it’s all celebration, all loopy, all of us get actual excited, smiles, cheers, and all that.” 

The Comets have been met with each disdain and intrigue on their journey to the championship.  

“That is an All African American group of younger girls. One of many different obstacles are the microaggressions that they face coming in,” stated Westchester softball coach Justin Cohen. “Not solely are [the Comets] going to play, they’re going to play at the next stage, each mentally, bodily, socially, collaboratively.” 

Westchester additionally needed to battle by means of the pains of the Western League. The league homes Palisades, Hamilton, and the Open Division contender Venice. The Comets got here into the playoffs fifth within the Western League.
