Vice President Kamala Harris made a quiet but highly effective assertion on the 2025 Met Gala, arriving in a customized “Off-White” look designed by IB Kamara. The theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Fashion,” was met with a robe that blended precision, softness, and power, very like Harris herself. (Click on right here to see the outfit!)

“To me, the true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and power,” Kamara stated in an announcement to theGrio. “There isn’t any one who exemplifies these traits greater than Kamala D. Harris, somebody who has overcome adversity and continues to be a beacon for thus many.”

Stepping onto the carpet together with her husband Doug Emhoff, Harris’ look was reportedly impressed by the easy class of dandyism, which the designer believes is “displaying up as your finest self with out the must be flashy or overworked.” Whereas the 92% fell in love with Vice President Harris’ silk presses and iconic pant fits,  tonight Harris adorned a robe crafted from wealthy cady silks in a traditional black-and-white palette. Exuding a quiet confidence, the robe additionally exemplifies dandyism by way of its dramatic sleeves and elongated scarf.

Forward of this pivotal second for Black style, Harris thought again to the Black males from her childhood who not solely formed her upbringing but additionally served as a few of her first style influences. Referring to them as her household by love,” she particularly recollects Uncle Freddy, who labored on the Studio Museum in Harlem; Uncle Sherman; and Henry Ramsey. These had been the unique dandies in her life, and their legacy walked together with her.

“Harlem was all the time a magical place for me,” Vice President Harris stated, explaining how Uncle Freddy and his neighbors’ unimaginable model, confidence and swagger impressed her as a baby.

Simply as Harris was draped in Black-owned designs, her husband, Emhoff, wore a swimsuit by Brunello Cucinelli and a boutonniere by Black-owned New York Metropolis florist Oat Cinnamon Studio. After almost turning into the primary Black lady to ascend to the best workplace within the land, Harris’ debut on the largest evening in style in Black-owned garbs appears like a radical act of dandyism.

As a result of generally essentially the most radical factor you are able to do is present up as your truest, most superbly tailor-made self.
