*(CNN) — The Venice Movie Competition has unveiled its lineup amid the continuing SAG-AFTRA actors and WGA writers strike.
Among the many movies premiering on the 2023 Biennale are new choices from Bradley Cooper, Sofia Coppola, Yorgos Lanthimos, Michael Mann and Ava DuVernay.
Opening the competition on August 30 is “Comandante,” an Italian interval drama from director Edoardo De Angelis starring Pierfrancesco Favino, who starred in “The Traitor.”
“Society of the Snow” from J.A. Bayona will shut the competition on September 9.
Cooper’s second directorial effort, “Maestro,” will play, though it’s unclear if Cooper will attend.
Ava DuVernay will compete together with her new characteristic, “Origin.”
“Poor Issues,” starring Emma Stone as a girl introduced again to life by a Nineteenth-century scientist, is ready to compete.
“La La Land” director Damien Chazelle will head up this 12 months’s worldwide jury, with administrators Jane Campion, Martin McDonagh, and Laura Poitras additionally judging.
Whereas the film lineup is full of A-list actors and big-name administrators, it stays unclear which expertise shall be allowed to truly attend the competition amid the strike.
Competition director Alberto Barbera stated in his opening speech if the strike continues to be ongoing there’ll probably be premieres with out the movie’s forged on the crimson carpet.
