Two women awarded $1M in racial discrimination lawsuit against San Francisco Sheriff’s Department

A jury awarded greater than $1 million to Danielle Dillard and Kim Lee, two San Francisco Sheriff’s Division (SFSD) clerks, after a four-week trial that ended this month. The jury sided with the plaintiffs on their allegations of being focused and subjected to racial harassment by white staff. 

They discovered that the SFSD had did not adequately look into their allegations that white staff had subjected them to a hostile work atmosphere. 

The ladies filed a lawsuit towards the company in 2020, alleging violations of the Honest Employment and Housing Act. Angela Alioto, lead trial counsel for the case, advised KQED, “It’s such an ideal victory that this jury noticed proper by means of town’s pretexts and noticed the insidious racism that’s at totally different workplaces all through town, however particularly on this case on the sheriff’s workplace. The jury unanimously voted to award the plaintiffs $1,139,400, with Dillard receiving $523,400 and Lee receiving $616,000; each ladies will proceed to work for the division.

After the decision, Lee stated, “I’m joyful I can transfer on. I can construct myself again up, and I do know I don’t ever need to be silenced on any job nowhere else.”
