President Donald Trump has a Black girl drawback.

And no, I don’t imply politically—although that’s undoubtedly true given how Black ladies overwhelmingly vote towards him. I imply, the way in which he treats us. Repeatedly, Trump has proven that his go-to transfer when confronted by robust, good, unflinching Black ladies is to lash out with insults and name-calling.

Illinois Gov @JBPritzker have accused Pres Trump of threatening to go to battle w/ Chicago so I requested Trump if he was doing so. He mentioned that was “faux information.” I adopted up & requested why he was utilizing the DoD & he replied “That’s not battle. That’s frequent sense.”pic.twitter.com/OMSZv6IJgC

— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche) September 7, 2025

The newest instance got here when NBC Information reporter Yamiche Alcindor dared to do her job and press him a few social media publish the place he appeared to threaten “battle” in Chicago. As an alternative of answering, Trump sneered, “Be quiet. You don’t pay attention. That’s why you’re second-rate.” His condescension was blatant—calling her “darling” at one level—and it was additionally acquainted.

Alcindor, who has persistently held energy to account, has been on the receiving finish of Trump’s assaults earlier than. In 2018, when she requested about his embrace of the time period “nationalist,” he dismissed it as a “racist query.” A 12 months later, he referred to as her “untruthful.” In 2020, as she pressed him on his COVID-19 response, he referred to as her questions “nasty.”

It’s a sample. April Ryan, a veteran White Home correspondent, was informed she “doesn’t know what the hell she is doing” and labeled a “loser.” Trump as soon as informed her to “arrange” a gathering between him and the Congressional Black Caucus, as if she have been his secretary. CNN’s Abby Phillip was informed her query was “silly.” Even after leaving workplace, Trump couldn’t resist mocking her protection of his tariffs, calling her “strictly third charge.”

Let’s be clear: These assaults aren’t nearly Trump’s skinny pores and skin. They’re about energy—and who he thinks deserves to wield it. When Black ladies stand agency, once we refuse to be intimidated, once we dare to problem him, he resorts to belittlement. That’s not management. That’s insecurity.

The Nationwide Affiliation of Black Journalists mentioned plainly: Journalists ought to by no means be personally attacked for doing their jobs. Respect for the press is the inspiration of democracy. But Trump continues to single out Black ladies journalists for ridicule, maybe as a result of he is aware of they see by way of him.

However right here’s the factor: Black ladies aren’t going anyplace. Not within the newsroom, politics, boardrooms, lecture rooms, pulpits or polling locations. If something, these repeated assaults solely spotlight why our voices matter. Trump might name us “losers” or “second-rate,” however historical past—and the poll field—tells a special story.

We’re the spine. We’re the truth-tellers. We’re the pressure that rattles those that worry accountability. And each time Trump tries to silence us, he solely makes it clearer why we should hold talking.
