Tia Mowry is grounded in her Blackness.
In a latest interview, the actress stated her id is firmly rooted within the tradition because the daughter of a Black lady.
Mowry, herself a mom of two who starred alongside her twin sister, Tamera, within the hit ’90s sitcom “Sister, Sister,” appeared on “The Cool Mother Code Podcast with Lizzy Mathis” the place she unpacked how her multiracial family and biracial background influences her self-identity.
“I determine myself as a Black lady,” Mowry instructed Mathis roughly 38 minutes into their hour-long dialog, which was launched on Wednesday. “My mom is Black, you recognize what I imply? My mom is a robust lady.”
Mowry, 45, stated that watching her mom navigate life in America as an Afro-Bahamian lady was essential in formulating her personal self-image.

Nonetheless, she added, due to the colour of her pores and skin, when she goes out into the world, she is seen and handled inside society as a Black lady.
“I determine myself as a Black lady. That’s how I’ve been seen. That’s how I’ve been seen. And I bear in mind learning at school that you probably have a single drop of Black blood, you’re Black,” she stated.
Mowry referred to the centuries-old “one-drop rule,” a long-standing U.S. authorized precept used prominently within the twentieth century to categorise mixed-race Individuals as Black, as long as they have been verified to have any quantity of Black ancestry.
