The Notorious B.I.G.’s Mother Voletta Wallace Dead at 78

Voletta Wallace, mom of the late rapper The Infamous B.I.G., handed away at 78 on February 21, 2025, in her Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania residence. The Monroe County Coroner confirmed she died of pure causes whereas below hospice care.   

Born in Jamaica, Voletta Wallace immigrated to america within the Nineteen Sixties, bringing together with her a resilient spirit and a dedication to training. As a single mom and schoolteacher, she raised her son, Christopher Wallace—recognized globally as The Infamous B.I.G.—in Brooklyn, New York. Regardless of the challenges of single parenthood, she instilled in him the values of exhausting work and dedication. Tragically, Christopher was murdered in a drive-by capturing in Los Angeles in 1997, a case that is still unsolved.

After Biggie’s tragic loss of life in 1997, Voletta grew to become the guardian of his legacy. She managed his property, rising it to an estimated $160 million, and co-produced the 2009 biopic Infamous, the place Angela Bassett portrayed her.   

Voletta Wallace’s affect reached past her quick household. She stood in solidarity with Afeni Shakur, mom of Tupac Shakur, on the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, symbolizing unity and shared grief between the 2 households. Her unwavering dedication to preserving her son’s legacy has left an indelible mark on the music trade and the numerous lives touched by his artistry. 

In honoring her son’s posthumous achievements, Voletta represented him on the 2020 Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame induction. In 2021, she served as an govt producer for the Netflix documentary Biggie: I Received a Story to Inform, providing insights into her son’s life and music.   

Voletta Wallace is survived by her prolonged household and is remembered for her dedication to preserving her son’s reminiscence.
