Teen rescues 3-year-old from drowning on Thanksgiving with CPR she learned at school

Madison Atkinson is being hailed as a hero after saving a relative who was about to drown within the household pool on Thanksgiving.

In keeping with a video clip from a house safety digital camera, 3-year-old Maxine toddled into the yard and mistakenly slipped into the pool whereas her household was getting ready breakfast.

Virtually 4 minutes later, Maxine’s uncle discovered her floating face down. “She was just about lifeless,” Kirsten Atkinson, Madison’s mom, advised TODAY.

15-year-old Madison responded to the toddler’s uncle’s requires help by beginning to administer CPR to Maxine.

Madison recounted to ABC 7, “I noticed that he was making an attempt the Heimlich. However I knew in that case you wanted CPR as a result of she didn’t seem to be she was respiration. I advised everybody I knew CPR and it calmed everybody down. Then they only laid her down on the bottom and I began CPR.”

Kirsten Atkinson, who witnessed the teenager in motion, additionally advised TODAY, “Madison’s simply pumping away for a few minutes, and at last, Maxine begins to open her eyes and begin to breathe. The dispatcher stated, ‘Put her on her aspect.’ And after we did that, Maxine opened her eyes and begins to actually breathe on her personal.”

“Your entire time Madison’s there simply calm, cool, collected, not panicked,” she added.

The paramedics had been impressed by Madison’s immediate response and inquired about her age after they arrived. The hero, Madison, who can be the captain of the JV cheer squad at her college, revealed that she realized find out how to carry out CPR in a sports activities drugs class.

Due to her daughter’s potential to save lots of lives, Kirsten Atkinson stated that they had a lot to be glad about that day.

“We had been in a position to rejoice Thanksgiving another way, proper? It was about, you realize, how treasured life is and the way issues can change within the blink of an eye fixed,” she acknowledged.

Although Maxine is totally healed, Kirsten Atkinson added that their whole household is committing to getting CPR coaching.
